Wade Trips – Stepping knee deep in a river and chasing fish at their own level are the hallmarks of a wade fishing outing. Guides are able to teach anglers of all abilities and skill levels more thoroughly in a less hurried pace. Wade fishing also allows anglers to stalk and sight fish to trout and enables anglers to cover water more intimately than float fishing.

All our surrounding fly fishing rivers fish very well all year long, with very little pressure in any of the rivers.

Winter months often account for some of the year’s best fly fishing with the majority of big fish caught during this time. Crowds are at their lowest offering more fish per angler and daily midge hatches.

Spring is punctuated by the year’s first hatches of Blue Wing Olive and Caddis flies. The trout move from the deep glides and pools of winter to the riffles and pocket water to feed more openly for longer periods of time.
Summer delivers prolific insect hatches including the Green Drake mayfly from late June through September. Dry fly fishing is common during the afternoons and evenings while summer float trips yield exciting and fast paced nymph and dry/dropper fishing.

Fall is when the crowds of summer are long gone and the fish begin to prowl with a heightened level of activity. Glorious mountain weather and big fish are hallmarks during autumn months. If there is a season that is favored by the many of the local fishing guides, it would be the fall.

These are our favorite fly fishing streams:

Roaring Fork River - With over sixty miles of fishable water, the roaring Fork offers anglers superb wade and float fishing opportunities from Aspen to Glenwood Springs. This freestone gem offers everything from classic dry fly slicks to pocket water and everything in between.

Frying Pan River – One of the world’s most renowned tailwater fisheries, the Frying Pan River is located in Basalt, is known for its ease of wading, year-round hatches and trout that often exceed ten pounds.

Crystal River – The Crystal River is one of the most photographed rivers in Colorado and is known for its majestic beauty sitting in the shadows of the picturesque Mt. Sopris. Wild brook and cutthroat trout are found in its upper reaches, while rainbow, brown and mountain whitefish dominate the lower river.

Colorado River – This is often the river the guides fish on their off-days as no other river offers more mystery and magic than the Colorado. This river is often wade fished though truly fishes best by float fishing. Strong, hard fighting fish including exotic species call the Colorado River home.
